After a failed attempt to straighten her teeth, a patient approached Dr. Michael Kosdon for a smile makeover before her wedding.

New York, NY — Dr. Michael Kosdon is well-known for his artistry and technique as a cosmetic dentist in New York City. Recently, a female patient came to him seeking a way to perfect her smile for her upcoming wedding. According to Dr. Kosdon, this patient said she was discontent after her Invisalign® treatment from her regular dentist. After using the clear teeth aligners for eight months, she felt her results were unsatisfactory. In addition to her teeth not straightening as well as she had hoped, Dr. Kosdon says the patient expressed concern for other dental problems that could not be addressed by Invisalign®. He explains that if Invisalign® had worked for her, it would have straightened her teeth, but would not have been able to improve the appearance of her teeth that were worn down, discolored, or chipped. Dr. Kosdon says in addition to straightening her smile, the patient wanted to enhance the shape and aesthetics of her teeth with a more permanent solution, without having to wear retainers any further. According to the New York City dentist, his patient also desired a brighter, whiter, smile that she could show off in her wedding photos.

In his initial consultation with the patient, Dr. Kosdon says he explained why Invisalign® did not work for her, and asked about her concerns, goals, and motivations. He notes that she had a mild fear of having dental work, so he felt that a smile makeover would be the best way to help her prepare for her wedding without the need for anesthetic. “You only get one chance to take your wedding pictures,” he says.

In order to select appropriate porcelain veneers for his patients, Dr. Kosdon takes into account the patient’s skin tone, hair color, and eye color, and takes measurements of their face and bite. Using this information, he says he is able to work with his ceramist to provide patients with a smile that is customized specifically for them.

After evaluating this particular patient, Dr. Kosdon says he sculpted a porcelain material onto her teeth, creating a few different “trial smiles.” After choosing the look she felt was best, Dr. Kosdon explains he was able to have the “trial smile” created in his office in about an hour and a half. The patient was sent home with the temporary veneers as a way for her to get used to her new appearance. Once the patient confirmed that she was happy with the results, Dr. Kosdon says he sent her information to his laboratory, where the permanent veneers were created. When the patient returned to the New York City cosmetic dentistry practice, Dr. Kosdon says he was able to attach six conservative upper veneers, leaving the bride-to-be with a beautiful, wedding-ready smile.

Less Is More: New York Dentist Uses Minimally Invasive Techniques To Achieve Natural Looking Smiles

porcelain veneers, cosmetic dentistry in New york, cosmetic dentist in New York, smile makeover

Dr. Michael Kosdon utilizes conservative dental techniques to cosmetically enhance smiles and provide natural-looking results for his New York dentistry patients.

New York, NYNew York cosmetic dentist Dr. Michael Kosdon says he values the natural beauty in a smile. For this reason, he notes that he works with patients at his private practice to create smiles that appear as though his patients were born with them. The New York dentist adds that he strives to provide cosmetic dentistry treatments and smile makeover procedures that look so natural, the work itself is undetectable and the focus is all on the results.

When Dr. Kosdon approaches a smile makeover procedure, he says he tries to recreate proportions and dimensions that fit the patient’s face and smile lines. He notes his goal is to take diagnostic information from the patient—including factors such as hair color, skin tone, and eye color—and conservatively construct a smile that complements their unique characteristics while creating an aesthetic that is cosmetically beautiful, but also natural-looking.

“Patients are no longer trying to achieve the unnaturally bright, white, fake Hollywood smile,” says Dr. Kosdon. His goal at his New York cosmetic dentistry practice is to restore natural beauty to patients that have lost teeth, have teeth that have become worn down, or have teeth that have become discolored or misaligned over time. The end result is a smile that fits the patient and the patient’s face.

While he says many cosmetic dentists file teeth down and send mockups to a lab in order to create a “perfect” smile, Dr. Kosdon notes that he takes a conservative approach to cosmetic restoration and attempts to preserve as much of each patient’s natural tooth structures as possible. He also says that due to a recent renaissance with materials and cements, many procedures at his practice can address minor alterations, discoloration, or misalignment without the use of a numbing agent.

As an example of his conservative approach, Dr. Kosdon highlights porcelain veneers. He says some porcelain veneers are now as thin as a contact lens, allowing even more minimal treatment than before. When patients are able to preserve more of their natural teeth behind their veneers, he says light is able to diffuse through the porcelain and use the natural tooth structure to create a realistic, natural looking brightness as opposed to the chalky opaqueness that can result when much of the patient’s tooth is removed and a thicker veneer is applied. Additionally, Dr. Kosdon works with technicians in Europe to import the porcelain for his veneers, utilizing materials that few in the United States are currently using.

Ultimately, “less is more” is the philosophy of Dr. Kosdon’s practice. According to him, cosmetic dentistry has evolved in the last ten years to the point where dentists no longer need to disrupt so much of the patient’s natural teeth to provide excellent results. Since the patient’s own teeth are the basis for all cosmetic enhancement at his practice, he says: “Next to being born with it, this minimally invasive approach to dentistry yields the most natural-looking results.”

Manhattan Cosmetic Dentist Uses Advanced Porcelain Veneers to Preserve Natural Tooth Structure

Dr. Michael Kosdon uses minimally invasive dentistry techniques to improve patients’ smiles for long-lasting results.

New York, NY – According to a recent study by the American Dental Association (ADA), a person’s smile outranked eyes, hair, and body as the most important physical feature. Furthermore, despite tough economic times, the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD) has estimated that adults in North America spend $2.75 billion each year on aesthetic dental procedures. As more Americans continue to invest in procedures to improve the appearance of their teeth, New York City dentist Dr. Michael Kosdon says the demand for innovative techniques that can create natural, long-lasting results has also risen. Dr. Kosdon says his practice’s unique approach to performing minimally invasive cosmetic dentistry in New York City has helped patients achieve effective results with minimal reshaping of their teeth.

Designed to preserve as much natural tooth structure as possible, Dr. Kosdon says minimally invasive cosmetic procedures are made possible by a number of developments in the technology surrounding porcelain materials and cements. While Lumineers® were a groundbreaking achievement several years ago, he says the aesthetics oftentimes appeared chalky and opaque, whereas modern porcelain veneers have been able to produce more natural results. Dr. Kosdon adds that he is now using the innovative IPS e.max® dental crowns and IPS Empress® Veneers, which allow him to improve the quality of the aesthetic outcome without sacrificing the structural integrity of his patients’ teeth.

“The ultimate goal of cosmetic dentistry is to not harm the teeth or body in any way,” says Dr. Kosdon. “Because of the new materials and cements, we are able to give life-like results without having to grind away the whole tooth. Patients can maintain more natural tooth structure than ever before, while also getting an impeccable cosmetic result. There really has never been a better time to get cosmetic dentistry.”

After first conducting a thorough examination of the patient’s teeth and aesthetic goals, Dr. Kosdon says he is able to construct a personalized treatment plan and begin customizing the porcelain veneers so they are tailored for a perfect look and a comfortable fit. Because each veneer is handmade using the latest technology, he says he can ensure each tooth only needs minimal reshaping in preparation for the final restoration. By preserving as much of the natural tooth structure as possible, Dr. Kosdon says patients can enjoy long-lasting results and a healthy, durable smile.

While minimally invasive veneers and conservative cosmetic dentistry can produce an exceptional outcome, Dr. Kosdon says not everyone is a good candidate for these types of procedures, and adds that patients should be sure to consult with an experienced and qualified dentist before undergoing treatment. Regardless of whether they are looking for routine cleanings or Invisalign®, he also urges patients to select a practice dedicated to personalized and compassionate care, so as to ensure they have a comfortable, satisfactory dental experience.

Innovative Technology Helps New York City Cosmetic Dentist Improve Lives

New York, NY — Cynthia had been putting her hand in front of her face to smile since before she could remember. As a mother with a young child, years of trying to hide a short, gummy smile and an infected front tooth from friends and potential employers had depleted her confidence. After saving up for years, Cynthia finally felt ready to begin the process of the smile makeover, which brought her to the office of Dr. Michael Kosdon, a dentist in New York City.

According to a recent study from the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD), Cynthia is not alone. Statistics show that 99.7 percent of Americans believe a smile to be an important social asset, while more than half of all adults are unsatisfied with the appearance of their teeth. At his NYC cosmetic dentistry practice, Dr. Kosdon says Cynthia’s situation is a common occurrence, and thanks to new advancements in dental techniques, he has been able to offer more patients like her effective treatment for their needs.

Because of the infection in her upper front tooth, Cynthia’s front teeth had cracked and the gum tissue was turning black. Embarrassed and unhappy with her appearance, she says she sought cosmetic work as a way to feel good about herself and restore her self-esteem. Dr. Kosdon says he was able to perform a comprehensive smile makeover involving nine porcelain veneers, one IPS e.max® implant crown, and a gum lift. An innovative, completely metal-free, zirconia abutment, he says the IPS e.max® dental crowns are optimized for translucency, durability, and strength to help improve the results of restorations. After extracting the infected front tooth, Dr. Kosdon says he anchored a dental implant, did a gum lift to make the teeth longer and bigger, and used porcelain veneers to whiten and straighten her teeth. By combining a customized set of procedures with state-of-the-art technology, Dr. Kosdon says he was able to completely rejuvenate Cynthia’s appearance, as well as her self-esteem.

“With the porcelain veneers, we fixed her bite, repaired the damage from the chipping, straightened her teeth, and closed the spaces,” says Dr. Kosdon. “Her whole life changed because she now feels more secure with herself, and she has more confidence to make changes in her life. It was one of those extreme life makeovers, and I’m proud to have been a part of it.”

Since the procedure, Cynthia says she has noticed a dramatic change in her confidence level, from laughing with her friends to having the courage and self-assurance to start life anew each day. She says she is excited to smile, and looks forward to enjoying life without the burden of embarrassment from her teeth: “Dr. Kosdon’s office feels different than any other dentist I have been to. I have not had great experiences with dental work in the past. I would go to the dentist and not go back for years. I have been going to Dr. Kosdon since 2006 and he has changed my life. I am very satisfied with the work he did and all the suggestions he had for me. I always get five-star treatment at his office.”

Regardless of whether patients are looking for a comprehensive treatment like the smile makeover for Cynthia, or a single procedure such as teeth whitening, Dr. Kosdon says choosing the right cosmetic dentist is an essential step towards attaining a beautiful, more confident smile. He encourages anyone considering an aesthetic dental procedure to consult with an experienced and qualified practice before making any decisions.

New York City Cosmetic Dentist Helps Patients Regain Confidence With Smile Makeovers

New York, NY–Dr. Michael Kosdon, a New York City cosmetic dentist, recently completed a smile makeover for Gary D., a male patient at his cosmetic dentistry practice. After a six month process and multiple office visits, Gary now has a whiter, healthier smile. Dr. Kosdon says his patient’s smile has dramatically improved and the patient now has the confidence to show off his new look: “The patient’s chief complaint was his two front teeth. He didn’t like how they looked, but after a great deal of research and consultations, he ultimately felt the most comfortable with us.”

According to Dr. Kosdon, the patient was involved in an accident when he was young and broke his two front teeth. Gary had to have crowns placed after the accident, but they did not match his other teeth and made him self-conscious about his smile. The entire NYC cosmetic dentistry team spent a lot of time with Gary to create an individual treatment plan designed to improve his smile. At the beginning stages of the process, Dr. Kosdon took impressions of the patient’s teeth and sent them to a lab for a diagnostic wax-up, which is used to visualize the final results of a procedure before it is performed. After removing the two crowns from the patient’s front teeth, Dr. Kosdon then created a temporary setup, which allowed Gary to walk out of the office looking and feeling better.

While Gary’s main concern was the cosmetic appearance of his teeth, Dr. Kosdon says he was most concerned with the decay and movement of Gary’s teeth, which had created dark holes in his mouth. While resolving this issue, he adds that he wanted to fix the patient’s bite to make it more even. He worked with periodontists to help balance out the patients smile by implementing two implant crowns on the patient’s two front teeth and eight porcelain veneers on the remaining upper teeth. Dr. Kosdon performed Zoom® Teeth Whitening on the patient’s lower teeth and did a gum lift to balance out gum tissue.

After the six month process, the Gary is more confident in his smile and Dr. Kosdon helped make it happen. Now that Gary’s smile makeover is complete, Dr. Kosdon says his smile looks more natural and healthier than it has for some time. His appearance dramatically improved after undergoing the combination of procedures, and both Dr. Kosdon and Gary are thoroughly satisfied with the results.

New York City Cosmetic Dentist Stresses Importance of Continued Education

porcelain veneers, cosmetic dentist New York City, New York cosmetic dentistry

New York, NY — According to the most recent update from the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), there are currently 155,700 dentists employed in the U.S., a number that is expected to grow by 21 percent in the next 8 years. The BLS also expects the trend of cosmetic dental services to become increasingly popular as new technologies allow for less invasive, faster procedures. While Dr. Michael Kosdon, a dentist in New York City, says this increase in demand for aesthetic dental work will significantly improve patient results, he says the need to choose a cosmetic dentist who has undergone the proper training and continued education has never been higher.

Focusing on a wide range of services at his New York City cosmetic dentistry practice, Dr. Kosdon says staying up-to-date with the latest advancements in the dental field has played a pivotal role in his ability to provide patients with quality care. He says because new techniques and materials are constantly evolving, someone who has extensively trained with the newest innovations in dentistry will be able to produce the best high end dentistry and help patients get the results they are looking for. Also, Dr. Kosdon says collaborating with leading minds in the industry helps him get a fresh perspective on how to improve procedures such as porcelain veneers and enhance patient results.

“For me personally, being around other doctors has helped me acquire new techniques and new ideas,” says Dr. Kosdon. “Continued education offers the benefit of learning from other people’s successes as well as their mistakes. Any time I take a course, I learn new things to improve my practice. I’m constantly evolving and trying to be better than the day before. It also allows me to implement those new practices in a faster way than if I was just learning them on my own.”

In addition to continued education, Dr. Kosdon says patients should look for several other key characteristics in their dentist. He says one of the best ways to get a feel for the type of work a cosmetic dental practice can produce is to take a look at their website and see if their portfolio matches the type of results the patient is looking for. “Not every dentist creates the same smiles,” he says. “It is important to find a dentist who is in tune with each patient’s goals. The goal is to find someone who exhibits variety in achieving natural results.”

Dr. Kosdon says he also recommends researching extensively a dentist’s reputation as well as their qualifications. He says combined with a dedicated pursuit of continued education, these factors can help patients achieve the safest, most effective results possible. As with any dental procedure, whether it be porcelain veneers or teeth whitening in New York City, he says dedicating the proper time and effort to finding the right practice can help patients achieve a beautiful, enhanced smile and improve their self-confidence.

North Hollywood Cosmetic Dentist Discusses Different Types of Porcelain Veneers

porcelain veneers, cosmetic dentist in north hollywood, dental implants north hollywood, north hollywood cosmetic dentistry

North Hollywood, CA — According to a recent study by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD), porcelain veneers are one of the most rapidly growing aesthetic dental procedures, increasing by over 250% in the past five years. While most patients may be aware of the benefits such a procedure can offer, Dr. Michael Kosdon, a cosmetic dentist in North Hollywood, says understanding the various types of material used in manufacturing the veneer can provide patients with a better sense of the right solution for their individual needs. Dr. Kosdon breaks down the five different types of porcelain veneers and explains how each one can offer patients a unique and effective treatment for cracked, chipped, stained, or misshapen teeth.

At his North Hollywood cosmetic dentistry practice, Dr. Kosdon performs a number of procedures ranging from dental implants and teeth whitening, to periodontics and routine cleanings. He says patients interested in porcelain veneers often suffer from a number of different dental maladies and are looking to improve the brilliance and structure of their smile. However, when choosing a type of veneer for one’s procedure, Dr. Kosdon says a dentist and patient must look at several indicators that may affect the success of the procedure, including whether or not the patient grinds and clenches their teeth, and how concerned they are with the color and intrinsic characterization of the finished product. He outlines the five major types of veneers and discusses each of their unique benefits:

1. Composite Material Veneers - Mostly constructed by the dentist in the patient’s mouth, composite veneers tend to be slightly weaker than porcelain and on average can chip or stain more easily. Having said that, the result depends on the precision and artistic ability of the dentist, and a beautiful, durable smile can be constructed by diligent bite design, case selection, and exceptional polishing skills.

2. Pressed Ceramic Veneers - Because they provide both durability and natural-looking results, this type of porcelain veneer is often selected for patients who clench and grind their teeth, but who also have a high smile line. Pressed ceramic veneers are stronger than the feldspathic (stacked) type of porcelain veneers but require more thickness and therefore more tooth reshaping.

3. Feldspathic (Stacked) Ceramic Veneers - Dr. Kosdon says patients who do little or no clenching and grinding but want the highest level of aesthetics are good candidates for the feldspathic (stacked) ceramic veneers. The color and intrinsic characterization of the veneer is layered to give the dentist a greater range of design and shaping ability. While not as strong as other types of veneers, Dr. Kosdon says this particular material can offer patients a radiant, flawless smile.

4. Leucite Reinforced Pressed Ceramic Veneers - Custom made by a professional ceramist, this porcelain veneer is stronger than the rest and can be made thinner with less need for tooth reshaping. Because it is a monochromatic veneer, Dr. Kosdon says the result offers less color distinction. However, a skilled dentist has the capability to match it to a variety of different tooth shades.

5. Lithium Disilicate Veneers - The newest type of porcelain veneer, lithium disilicate veneers are much stronger than the above types and more resistant to chipping and staining. Dr. Kosdon says they are an excellent choice for teeth that are farther back in the mouth, requiring a more durable structure and less cosmetic prominence.

Dr. Kosdon says thanks to the ever-expanding field of cosmetic dentistry, more techniques and technology for improving patient smiles are emerging each year. He says through the unique and innovative types of veneers available today, patients have access to effective, long-lasting solutions to improving their dental aesthetics as well as their confidence. However, whether they are looking for porcelain veneers or dental implants in North Hollywood, Dr. Kosdon urges all patients to seek consultation with an experienced and dedicated cosmetic dentist before undergoing any procedure: “In today’s fast paced society, new materials and new techniques are constantly evolving. Somebody who is up to date on the latest techniques will be able to offer the safest and most effective procedures.”

New York Cosmetic Dentist Completes Extreme Smile Makeover

New York, NY – Dr. Michael Kosdon, a New York cosmetic dentist, recently completed an extreme smile makeover for a female patient at his cosmetic dentistry practice. After a three-step process and two office visits, Dr. Kosdon says this Westchester, NY patient has dramatically improved her appearance and regained the confidence she needed to show off her smile. “The patient was really unhappy and insecure about the appearance of her teeth. She explained that she was always very self-conscious with the discoloration and was embarrassed to smile.”

According to Dr. Kosdon, this patient wanted a permanent solution for her dark and discolored teeth. At his New York cosmetic dentistry practice, Dr. Kosdon met with his patient for the initial consultation and discussed her smile makeover goals. After a number of attempts with both at-home and in-office teeth whitening products with other practices, the patient says it came down to her desire for a brand new smile that would increase her confidence and self-esteem.

Dr. Kosdon recommended a combination of porcelain veneers for her upper and lower front teeth, as well as EMAX crowns on her posterior molars. The patient was presented with a digital image of what she could expect following the treatment plan Dr. Kosdon had proposed, which included a full set of X-rays to ensure her teeth were healthy and could support the smile makeover process. The treatment was administered in three stages over two office visits, as follows:

  • Diagnostic wax-up: simulation of her new smile with temporary replacement teeth
  • Preparation appointment: patient’s teeth are reshaped to make room for the veneers
  • Smile Reveal: temporaries are removed, teeth are disinfected, and porcelain veneers are permanently cemented

Now that the patient’s procedure is complete, Dr. Kosdon says he is thoroughly pleased with the results. “This was an extreme makeover. The patient’s appearance dramatically improved after undergoing the cosmetic dentistry procedure. She instantly looks 10-15 years younger and isn’t afraid to show off her smile anymore.” The patient adds that Dr. Kosdon helped her achieve an important and long-awaited goal: “Important because now I can smile without feeling embarrassed, and long awaited because I searched long and hard for a dentist in whom I felt a strong sense of trust and confidence.”

Porcelain Veneers Can Help Create Fuller Lips According to New York Cosmetic Dentist

New York City Cosmetic Dentist Discusses Lip Enhancement with Porcelain Veneers

According to a survey commissioned by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD), dentists perform over 599,000 porcelain veneer procedures each year, making it the third most performed cosmetic enhancement provided by dental practices. Dr. Michael Kosdon, a cosmetic dentist in New York, says that while many patients seek porcelain veneers to enhance their dental structure and smile, application of dental veneers can also enhance the fullness of one’s lips.

At his center for cosmetic dentistry in New York, Dr. Michael Kosdon says porcelain dental veneers have grown significantly in popularity over the past few years as more and more patients begin to see the benefits that an improved smile can offer to both confidence and appearance. While the American Association of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD) reports that porcelain veneers procedures have increased by 250% in the past five years, Dr. Kosdon says patients have only recently begun to seek the procedure at his practice as a way to enhance lip fullness and plumpness. He says porcelain veneers can help increase confidence and improve one’s smile by augmenting natural lip shape. “Dental veneers are a very common cosmetic dentistry procedure in our office, but only recently have patients discovered what veneers can do to produce fuller lips, reduce wrinkles, and improve the appearance of the entire face.”

Performed by adhering a thin, wafer-like strip of porcelain to the surface of teeth, Dr. Kosdon says the added thickness of the veneers pushes out one’s natural lip curves to create a more rounded, ample shape. With a dental procedure like porcelain veneers in New York City, he adds that patients can experience plump, luscious lips without having to undergo plastic surgical procedures or dermal fillers. “Dental veneers can improve the look of the smile and the entire face, and are permanent unlike dermal fillers. With veneers, patients can permanently enhance their lips and remove or reduce wrinkles in the corner of their mouth without having to endure frequent injections.”

As with any procedure, Dr. Kosdon says he recommends consulting with an experienced and dedicated cosmetic dentist before proceeding with any cosmetic enhancement. However, he adds that through the skilled hands of a qualified dentist, patients can achieve full, natural lips to complement their overall appearance.

A Healthy Smile Can Improve Overall Health According to Cosmetic Dentist in New York City

New York City Cosmetic Dentist on Connection Between Heart and Oral Health

New York City cosmetic dentist Dr. Michael Kosdon says patients who have their teeth cleaned regularly are less likely to have a heart attack or stroke. Dr. Kosdon says that while the link between oral health and heart health cannot be entirely confirmed yet, maintaining proper dental hygiene and a routine of professional cleanings can help patients feel better and lead to an improvement in overall health and well-being.

According to a study presented at the recent annual meeting of the American Heart Association (AHA) and conducted by cardiology fellow Zu-Yin Chen, MD of the Veterans General Hospital in Taiwan, regular professional scaling and cleaning from a dentist can help reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke. The study shows that people who have their teeth professionally cleaned at least once every two years are 24% less likely to have a heart attack and 13% less likely to have a stroke, compared with those who do not regularly undergo dental cleanings. At his New York City cosmetic dentistry practice, Dr. Michael Kosdon says patients can help reduce the likelihood of gum disease and inflammation, which can lead to more significant health risks, with a proper oral hygiene routine.

Dr. Kosdon says untreated and neglected dental hygiene issues can result in chronic oral and periodontal infection that can spread to the rest of the body. He says through regular cleanings and x-rays, dentists can identify potential concerns in a patient’s oral health early on and take the proper course of action for addressing these issues and preventing further complications. Dr. Kosdon adds that patients who routinely receive dental scalings or cleanings also get the benefit of comprehensive and thorough dental care to supplement their at-home hygiene practices. “In many cases, gum disease and infection aren’t always visible to the patient and can affect overall health. It is always better to be proactive and catch dental disease at an early stage before it compromises ones overall health.”

Whether patients are looking for routine cleanings or a more noticeable improvement to their dental aesthetics such as porcelain veneers, Dr. Kosdon recommends consulting with an experienced and qualified cosmetic dentist before undergoing any procedure. He says patients should be sure to seek out a practice dedicated to their overall health through quality oral hygiene maintenance and an eye for aesthetic beauty. “Routine cleanings along with regular brushing and flossing can often lead to whiter teeth which is an inexpensive way to improve ones self-esteem and oral health.”
