sedation dentistryMany people are afraid of going to the dentist – and consequently, many people leave serious dental conditions untreated for years. Avoiding the dentist can not only impact the beauty of your smile, but can also have a significant impact on the overall health of your teeth and gums. In some cases, untreated dental conditions can lead to tooth loss or even life-threatening disease. Fortunately, new innovations in sedation dentistry have allowed thousands of our patients to have necessary dental work completed with a sense of comfort and ease.

The type of sedation dentistry (also sometimes called “sleep dentistry”) most commonly practiced by Dr. Michael Kosdon is oral conscious sedation. With oral conscious sedation, there is no need for an IV. Instead, you simply take a small pill one hour before your appointment. By the time you arrive, the medication will have taken effect and you will enter a state of deep relaxation. During this method of sleep dentistry, a member of our team will be monitoring your vital signs during the entire procedure.

Don’t let dental fear come between you and a healthy, beautiful smile. Oral conscious sedation allows our patients to take good care of their teeth and gums without fear and without pain. Many patients are so relaxed they do not even remember any details of their treatment. As you may still be drowsy a few hours after your procedure, Dr. Kosdon recommends having a friend or family member available after your appointment to drive you home.
